On stage, Flogging Molly is an almighty clash of fury and festivity. This high-spirited Celtic-influenced septet has been generating quite a buzz for its infectious Irish thrash. Heady and hard rockin’, Flogging Molly is armed with a passion to protect its stylistic traditions and a youthful energy and enthusiasm for good old-fashioned rock n’ roll. Born in Los Angeles in a small but notorious Irish institution known as Molly Malone’s, Flogging Molly played its first gig on St. Patrick’s Day in 1997. The band picked the selfsame pub to record their debut release, Alive Behind The Green Door. They recorded live for a good reason—a studio album couldn’t possibly convey the raucous spirit they’re famous for. Dublin native and singer/songwriter/acoustic guitarist Dave King has fire blazing out of his lungs. Only years of drinking Guinness could produce the pungent lyrics and Celtic charm he weaves into the band’s repertoire. Other members of the band include fiddler/penny whistler Bridget Regan, mandolist Bob Schmidt, bassist Nathen Maxwell, lead guitarist John Donovan, and accordionist (and well-known pro skateboarder) Matt Hensley.
